To all who kindly support the work of Educo,
Since the start of 2018, due to your kind generosity, three new schools have been built in an extremely rural and impoverished part of West Bengal, India. Each of these schools are located within 30km radius of each other. With only 15% of children in this area enrolled in the Indian education system, Educo identified a critical need to aid these communities break the poverty cycle they’ve found themselves in.
Each of the schools opened in March 2018. Each community has welcomed our schools with open arms and enrollment numbers are really strong. We have also put together an active Board of Management in each school, made up of five members from the local community, who will manage the future of these schools with our support. The Board’s focus in recent months has been educating the parents in the surrounding areas of the schools about the benefit of education for their children. Our collective aim is to have each school start with 200+ pupils next academic year.
Once again, thank you for your support, it is transforming many children’s lives.
‘To stand in solidarity with the poor is not just to give our riches, but to reveal to the poor their riches, their value, their gift and to trust them and their capacity to grow.’

Our plans for 2019

In 2019, we plan on building the following:

  • Cost: €80,000
  1. Building phase 1 (6 classrooms) of a new school in Washabari, West Bengal

  1. Adding an additional floor to St. Conleth’s (expanding the school’s capacity to 400 pupils)
  • Cost: €54,000
  1. Adding an additional floor to St. Peters & St. Pauls (expanding the school’s capacity to 400 pupils)
  • Cost: €54,000
Again, we are focusing building new schools in rural and impoverished parts of West Bengal where only 15% of children are enrolled in the Indian educational system. Those who do not attend school in this area start working on the tea plantations as early as 12 years of age so giving them a platform to be educated is crucial. As with all our projects, 100% of funds raised will go towards our projects.
